WELLNESS CARE FOR YOUR NEW KITTEN

When we accept anew kitten into our household we also accept the responsibility for its health care, daily care, feeding, and training. The first and most important thing that must be done for your kitten is to visit a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will provide a "wellness" examination and begin your kitten's vaccination and parasite protection program. Young kittens are "sitting ducks" for deadly disease, parasitism, or improper care. A series of wellness/vaccination visits will include a physical examination, parasite check, vaccinations, and a host of informative data on how to protect and care for your new kitten. You will also receive information on zoonotic diseases that can affect both people and animals.

A set of regular visits for a series of kitten wellness vaccinations is essential to help establish adult immunity for your kitten. These visits should begin at about 3 weeks of age for a parasite exam and deworming. The second visit should come at about 6 - 8 weeks for a physical, parasite check, deworming, and first vaccines. Follow up visits for physical, parasite check, deworming, and additional exposures to vaccines should occur at 3 - 6 weeks after the first vaccines. Rabies vaccine will be given on the last visit of the series or when the kitten reaches 12 weeks of age.

In addition to basic kitten vaccines, we can protect kittens and adult cats from Feline Leukemia and Feline Lenti Virus diseases. These protections require a blood test to be sure that the animal does not have either of these deadly diseases, followed by a series of exposures to form the cat's protective immunity. We offer the testing and vaccination for these two diseases as a package fee.

MOST KITTENS CAN HARBOR PARASITES THAT MIGHT BE HARMFUL TO PEOPLE A FECAL EXAMINATION WILL BE PERFORMED TO IDENTIFY THESE INFECTIONS AND A DEWORMING WILL BE ADMINISTERED EVEN IF THE PETS STOOL DOES SHOW PARASITES
